Customer reviews

Excellent

Rated by customers across London

  • Upstairs radiators never got properly hot. After the flush the water ran clear, a magnetic filter went on under the boiler and the whole house heats evenly now.
    Mehmet K.Power flush, Streatham
  • Old bath out, walk-in shower in. The layout drawing meant there were no surprises, the pipework was redone properly and the tiler and plumber worked to the same plan.
    Sophie L.Bathroom refit, Putney
  • Boiler locked out on a cold morning. They talked me through checking the condensate pipe while I waited, then came out, found the ignition electrode had failed and swapped it.
    Daniel F.No heating, Croydon
  • Swapped three tired panel radiators for column ones in a Victorian front room. Matched them to the existing pipe centres so no floorboards came up. Neat job.

The work in detail

A plumbing emergency is anything causing damage right now, or leaving a home without a basic service. That includes a burst pipe, water coming through a ceiling, a toilet that will not stop overflowing, no cold water supply, or losing heating and hot water in winter with vulnerable people in the house. Our emergency plumbers deal with each of these across London, starting with making the property safe.

If you are searching for a 24 hour plumber because something has just gone wrong, first limit the damage: shut off the stopcock and switch off electrics near any leak. Then send us the details through Quick Quote Online, marked urgent. For problems that are annoying rather than damaging, such as a dripping tap, our standard local plumber service is usually the better fit.

Emergency Plumbing Callout

When you raise an emergency, we need to know three things: what is happening, where in the property it is, and whether you have managed to stop the water. That tells the engineer which parts and tools to bring and whether the first task is isolation, drainage or repair.

On site, the priority is safety. Water is shut off at the stopcock or the nearest isolation valve, electrics near the leak are checked, and the damaged section is exposed. Only then do we look at the permanent fix. You are kept informed at each stage, and nothing beyond the agreed work is carried out without your go-ahead.

Availability and Rapid Response

We do not offer round-the-clock cover, and we will not promise an arrival time we cannot keep. What we do is put urgent jobs ahead of routine work and offer the earliest attendance the diary allows. Marking your request as urgent, and describing the problem clearly, is the quickest way to be seen.

While you wait, a few steps limit the damage:

  • Close the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink or where the supply enters the building
  • Turn off the boiler and any immersion heater if hot water is leaking
  • Switch off at the consumer unit if water is near sockets or light fittings
  • Open the cold taps to drain the pipes and move valuables clear

Burst Pipes, Leaks and Water Shut-Offs

Burst pipes in London tend to happen in predictable places: in loft spaces and under suspended timber floors during cold snaps, at old soldered joints in period homes, and on push-fit fittings that were never fully seated. A pinhole in corroded copper can also let go suddenly after years of quietly weeping.

We cut out the damaged length, replace it with new pipe and fittings, then pressure test the repair before restoring supply. If your stopcock is seized or cannot be found, which is common in older terraces and conversion flats, we can isolate at the external valve and fit a new internal stopcock so you have control next time.

Boiler, Heating and Hot Water Emergencies

Losing heat or hot water counts as an emergency when there are young children or elderly or unwell people at home, or when the weather turns cold. The causes vary: low pressure on a combi, a frozen condensate pipe, a failed diverter valve, a leaking pressure relief valve or a fault code that locks the boiler out.

Some of these can be sorted on the spot, such as thawing a condensate pipe or repressurising a sealed system. Anything on the gas side is handled by Gas Safe registered engineers, and more involved faults are booked in as boiler repairs. If you can smell gas, leave the property and call the national gas emergency line first.

Common Emergency Repairs and Temporary Fixes

Not every permanent repair can be completed on the first visit. A specific valve may need ordering, or the leak may sit behind tiling you would rather not lose tonight. In those cases we make the situation safe and workable, then come back for the full repair.

  • Repair clamps and capped ends to stop a burst section
  • Isolating one toilet, tap or appliance so the rest of the house keeps its water
  • Bypassing a failed cylinder to restore cold water
  • Temporary waste connections after a split trap or pipe

You are told what is temporary, what the permanent job involves and what it will cost.

Pricing, Charges and How Emergency Work Is Billed

Emergency work is priced differently from booked jobs, because it means rearranging the diary to reach you. Before any work starts you are told how the charge is made up: attendance, labour for the repair and parts, each listed separately. If the engineer finds something that changes the job once the floor is up, the revised price is confirmed with you before continuing.

Temporary fixes and any later permanent repair appear as separate items, so you can see what you are paying for at each stage. The invoice matches the written price, with nothing added after the event.

Why Customers Choose Our Emergency Plumbing Service

People in a plumbing emergency want someone who explains what is going on and does not make a stressful evening worse. Our approach rests on a few plain habits. You get a written price before work starts. You are told what caused the problem, not just that it is fixed. Gas work is only ever carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers.

We also leave a written record of the repair, which is useful if you need to make an insurance claim or report the incident to a landlord or freeholder. If a follow-up visit is needed, it is booked before we leave, so you are not left chasing anyone.

Areas we cover

Emergency plumbing across London

Emergencies look different depending on the building. In Walthamstow and Leytonstone, where terraces and flats make up most of the housing, a burst on an upper floor often means water coming through a neighbour's ceiling. Canary Wharf and the newer E20 blocks in Stratford have communal risers and plant rooms that need building management access. In Tottenham, Acton and Shepherds Bush, many pre-1919 houses still have stopcocks that have not been turned in years. We plan emergency visits around those realities.

Questions

Emergency Plumber: your questions

Painted period townhouses in London

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Anything causing damage or leaving you without an essential service: a burst or leaking pipe you cannot isolate, water near electrics, an overflowing toilet or drain, no cold water, or no heating or hot water when someone vulnerable is at home. A dripping tap or slow basin is not an emergency and can be booked as a standard job.

Where is my stopcock likely to be?

In most London houses it is under the kitchen sink, but in older terraces it can be in a cellar, under the stairs or beneath a floorboard near the front door. In flats it may be in a communal cupboard or riser. It is worth finding and testing yours before you need it, and we can replace one that is seized.

Can you make a temporary repair and come back later?

Yes. If a permanent repair needs parts that have to be ordered, or would mean removing tiling late in the day, we stop the leak and restore as much of the supply as possible. The return visit is booked before we leave, and both stages are priced separately in writing.

Will you give me a report for my insurer after a burst pipe?

We provide a written record of the cause, the location and the repair carried out, with photographs taken during the job. Many customers pass this straight to their insurer. We cannot tell you whether a claim will be accepted, but a clear record of what happened helps the process along.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Do not use switches, flames or anything that could spark. Open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can reach it safely, leave the property and call the national gas emergency line. Once they have made the supply safe, a Gas Safe registered engineer can find and repair the fault.
